Breast Reduction (Mammoplasty)

For many women, large and pendulous breasts can limit lifestyle choices and cause several physical ailments. Large breasts can result in back and neck pain, skin irritation and other medical conditions. Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce the weight of over-sized breasts and can provide relief for women suffering from physical and emotional issues caused by overly large breasts.

Evaluation:
At The Plastic Surgery Group, we are only concerned with how we can help you achieve your goals. That means taking the time to listen and work with you to design your desired look. Our customer-focused approach facilitates a more relaxed and comfortable environment, which in turn yields the best results.

During your initial consultation, your TPSG surgeon will discuss your specific goals for your procedure. Your TPSG surgeon will also assess your physical and emotional health. During your examination, measurements and photographs may be taken for your medical records.

The Procedure:
A breast reduction procedure involves the removal of fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts. This enables the surgeon to re-size and reshape the breast to better fit the body contour of the patient.

Patients should be aware that a breast reduction procedure is not a simple operation and that choosing the right plastic surgeon to perform your breast reduction is very important when considering this type of surgery. Recovery:
Following surgery, you will be brought into a recovery room for a period of time. In most cases breast reduction is performed as an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to go home the same day. Everyone heals at a different rate, so it is important to follow the post-operative instructions given to you by your physician. On average, patients should plan on missing at least one week of work. After several weeks, bruising and swelling will diminish, and you may return to most of your normal activities. After a few months your breasts will begin to take on more of a normal shape and you will begin to notice your incision lines fading.

Limitations:
Although breast reduction surgery can provide an excellent result, it is important to understand that the incision lines will be permanently visible. Over time, the incision lines will begin to fade and become less noticeable. In a small percentage of cases, women may also experience temporary or permanent loss of nipple sensation. There have also been rareoccurrencesof regrowth, and in some cases a second breast reduction procedure may be needed.

Results:
Breast reduction surgery ranks among the highest in patient satisfaction. You will be relieved from the physical ailments caused by overly large breasts almost immediately. Your body will look better proportioned, and you will have greater freedom of clothing selection and physical activity. Many patients have told us that breast reduction surgery has truly improved their quality of life.
