The Miracle of Microneedling

Mesotherapy microneedle, the woman at the beautician

Fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne scarring, oh my! When you look in the mirror, are you happy with what you see? Every aspect of our daily lives can affect the appearance of our skin.  If you’re like me, and have worshipped the sun and occasionally forgone proper skin care, your skin might be silently screaming for some attention. You can wash, exfoliate, tone, moisturize, wear sunscreen but sometimes that isn’t enough. That is where the skin care specialists at The Plastic Surgery Group can change your life!

What is microneedling, you ask? Microneedling is an innovative skin care treatment that uses tiny needles to create “micro-injuries” thus encouraging your body to create more elastin and collagen. Our skin care specialists can accurately treat each area of the face and neck with adjustable needle depths to address your individual skin care needs. Say goodbye to rough texture, fine lines, pigment, acne scars and say hello to smooth luxurious skin.

My personal experience with microneedling has been fantastic. I took before and after pics and kept a photo diary for the next 7 days to document the healing process. It was amazing to watch the improvements in my skin over the course of a week. The process began with the application of a numbing cream applied to clean skin. It took 20 to 30 minutes for full effect and then it was time to begin the microneedling! The device looks like a large pen, so you don’t actually see the needles. My face was treated in sections, with a custom blended serum of hyaluronic acid and peptides applied so the pen would glide smoothly over my skin.  After multiple passes over my full face and neck the treatment was complete! Cold compresses were applied for a few minutes to help reduce inflammation and redness. The final step was the application of Alastin Skin Nectar, an anti aging, soothing serum and I was officially good to go. When I first looked in the mirror, I was surprised by the redness but my skin care specialist reassured me this was normal and would subside over a couple hours. It looked and felt like a sunburn and some areas of my face appeared to have more color than others.  The healing process is different for everyone. As long as you follow the post care instructions given to you in the complimentary post care kit you will instantly fall in love with microneedling.

How frequently should you microneedle and who should avoid it? The surgeons and skin care specialists at TPSG recommend having 4 to 6 treatments to give the best results. Microneedling is safe for all skin types, but they do not recommend it for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or people who are susceptible to raised scarring.
